The Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System is stepping up patient and water system testing after diagnosing six patients with Legionnaires’ disease during the last six months.

VA officials said they believe all six veterans acquired the disease somewhere other than VA hospitals, according to a statement from the health care system. The disclosure comes just under three years after the end of a Legionnaires’ outbreak at the VA Pittsburgh in which at least six veterans died and 16 others fell ill.
